Spring lipsticks for women of color

Hi Lovebugs! So this post is actually a lookbook of Spring lipsticks for women of color. It’s a collaboration with 7 other melanin beauties! The looks are centered around bright spring lipsticks to encourage women of color to embrace all the spring trends! You don’t have to feel left out girl! Alot of darkskin or women of color are so scared to go out of the box and stick to neutral lipsticks as they feel that thats all that will good on them. Well I’m here to tell you, you can rock any lipstick color fiercely! Yes you can be a part of all the fun looks you see on the runways. It’s so disheartening that many women of color feel they can’t wear bright lipsticks because they’ve been told bright colors are not pretty on darker skin. Well it’s a lie and hopefully by the end of this blog post you will feel inspired. Thanks to Melanie of mattesandmettalics.com for coming up with the idea of the collaboration.  All of the bloggers included will be listed below check out their take on these bright lipsticks. Hope you enjoy my take on these spring lipsticks for women of color.

So there’s 4 color lipsticks we had to include for these looks- purple, pink, orange, and coral. I hope you girls love the looks I created. Let’s get into it!

Purple-Colourpop Zipper
Here is an all over purple look that I created. I wanted to be a little more bold with the eyes and lips. Usually for a bold lip I would do a neutral eye but I wanted to create a fun look. Click Colourpop zipper to purchase.

Pink- Mac Candy yum yum
I used a brownliner to line my lips and tone down the lipstick a bit. Click Mac Candy Yum Yum to purchase.

I used a pink liner to help with this sheer lipstick.

LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal HD Concealer Review

Hi Lovebugs! Today’s Try it Tuesday’s post will be a review on the LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal Concealer! Sorry that I’ve been MIA for so long, I injured my ankle and just couldn’t get any posts together. But I didn’t want to leave you guys without any new content, so I figured I would focus on some beauty posts while I recover, I missed you all! Ok, so let’s get into it!

image

So this post is seriously overdue as I have been wearing these concealers for over a year now and I need to let you guys know how amazing the LA Girl Cosmetics pro conceal are for women of color. First off let’s look at the colors I chose:

image

-The orange corrector
-Fawn
-Toast
-Dark Cocoa
-Mahogany

Now for the PROS!
-Affordable – Guys, I got these for $2.99. Yes, I said $2.99 at my local beauty supply store. You can pick these up at any beauty supply store I’m sure for under $5.But just in case these aren’t in your area, you can order these online at walgreens and drugstore.com or www.ikatehouse.com

-Coverage- Full coverage. A little goes a long way with these concealers. You don’t need to pile it on and you get the color payoff that you are looking for without having to use a lot of product.

-Durable- When i tell you that these concealers don’t budge! Believe me-you can wear them all day. They dry quickly with a matte finish.

-Color Range- The shade range that they offer is just out of this world. The ranges run for pale skin to the darkest skin. It’s so amazing that they were able to include appropriate shades for all women. This is also such a win for women of color like me who don’t have that many affordable options when it comes to makeup colors. My brown girls will love it.There’s a shade for ua all!

-Consistency- I love the consistency. It comes out thin and has the right amount of water in it. It comes out the tube very easily and you can apply this straight to your face and build if you need to.

-Ease of Use- The tube is so easy to work with. The product comes out very easily and the brush applicator is easy to use.

The only thing I will say is try not to lose the top to the concealers because the concealer will dry out and it’ll be hard to get the product out.

How I Use the La Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal Concealers
Orange Color Corrector- I just started color correcting and this is my go to concealer to cancel out any dark areas and under eye circles. I use the orange very sparingly though so as not to turn into an orange faced mess. Remember a little goes a long way so just spot treat on the areas you want to hide and blend it out so it melts in your skin before your foundation.

Fawn- Fawn has a yellow undertone which is a little bright for me for everyday use, so I use fawn for those special night outs or whenever i need my highlight on FLEEK. I use it on my eyebrows, my nose, and under my eyes. When I’m doing my eyebrows I only use it only on the bottom of the eyebrow, i don’t use it to conceal the top, i would use a more similar tone to my complexion like toast.

Toast- I use toast for most of my everyday makeup looks and even night time looks. I don’t like that overly highlighted face that people like to do. I’m more along the lines of having my makeup look seamless and natural, instead of “oh yea” I can tell EXACTLY where she concealed, there’s the roadmap on her face”. It’s enough highlight for me.

Dark Cocoa- I use dark cocoa when i want to skimp on foundation. I’ll use it on spots i want to conceal and throw on some bb cream, or a light coverage foundation for those day’s i just want dewy skin that’s not all made up.

Mahogany- I think Mahogany is the darkest shade they have and it’s DARK. The darkest skin women could use this. I don’t like to contour much but this would be a fantastic shade to use if you want that extra dark contour to create deep shadows on your face.

I’m a fan of just about everything LA Girl! See my most recent post on their lip paints which I love, here

The LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal Concealers are a MUST Have, not even a must try for all women struggling to find a perfect concealer match. Whether you are a pro make up artist or a beginner, you need to have these babies in your kit. Trust me you won’t regret it.

Do you own any of the LA Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal concealers? What are your thoughts on it? I would love to hear your opinions in the comment section below!

Monochrome Madness: Gray Series

image

Today is all about monochrome lovebugs! Monochrome has been the rave in spring/summer looks and definitely for fall/winter. Now I’ve always been a girl that loves some color! My apartment is full of it lol. But recently I’ve been wearing a lot of muted colors especially gray. (Check out my last monochrome post here) In my mind it’s the perfect neutral and looks good on pretty much everyone.

image

image

Since I decided to wear gray all over it decided to have fun with accessorizing this outfit with a hat, great for fall. I also wanted to break up the all gray look with this coat that has black leather half-sleeves with a zipper. I love this coat. It’s my favorite to wear in the cool fall weather and even in the winter. I will layer up so much just to be able to wear this coat!

image

image

Adding an item to the outfit that has some striking detail can definitely take your look to the next level of sophisticated, plus having a coat that works double duty to keep you warm and stylish is a win in my book!

image

So about these over the knee boots- they fit me! It’s always a struggle for me every fall winter to find knee high boots, or over the knee boots because my calves aren’t big enough.

image

Every fall women get to look their sexiest wearing boots, whether it be flats, chunky heels, or stilettos and I’m just here like…. Wwhhhhyyyyyy! Why can’t I be hot too without spending 2 arms and a leg!! Well it seems the shoe gods heard my cries because this year I racked up!!!! I bought these in gray, maroon and black!! (Follow my instagram to see those looks)

image

The necklace I’m wearing is from mirinacollections.com. I love all the little colors in it! It’s so beautiful and it’s not even heavy. I wanted to add a little color somewhere. If you like this necklace there’s plenty more where that came from! Use my code “tina” for 20% off at checkout.

Try it Tuesday: Kissyface Lipstick!

Lipstick

Today is Try it Tuesday so you know what that means! I’ll be reviewing a beauty product and letting you know if you should try it out. Today’s spotlight goes to Kissyface lipstick. I was approached by the owner to do a review and I’m actually happy she reached out because I really, really like these colors! Can’t beat brown girl friendly lippies! Below are the 3 swatches of the lip colors that were sent to me and the packaging it came in.

image

Usually before I put on any lipstick I prime my lips with some kind of balm, usually Maybelline baby lips, to make sure my lips are moisturized underneath. You never know with some lipsticks, they can be very drying. The last thing I want is cracked lips or my ultimate peeve, feathering! However, Kissyface lipstick was very moisturizing and the pigment of the shades is super intense. I didn’t have to continuously swipe more color on to get the intensity I wanted. I like the fact that I can get high pigment on my lips without sacrificing moisture.

image

My favorite thing about these colors are how good they looked with my skin color! The shades are woman of color/brown girl friendly which is a plus for me, but would look gorgeous on any complexion. I believe all companies should keep every woman in mind when creating lip colors.

image

This is the nude color without a liner! Every girl needs a nude and this is perfect for me!

I’ve been looking for an orange shade that’s not to bright but not dull on my lips and I think I found it.

image

Pumpkin spice is perfect for fall right now. I’m in love with this shade.

image

Cocoa is a beautiful reddish brown you can wear daily.

I also really love the fact that these lipsticks are all natural and made with Beeswax beeds, Almond Oil, Oxide and Shea Butter. This lets me know you can have organic cosmetics that are high pigmented and good for you. If you ever forget your lip balm, don’t fret, you can have great color without chappy lips.

image

Some cons for me are that I’m not a fan of the Shea Butter smell. It’s not a strong smell but I prefer no smell or a little fragrance. Because it’s so creamy and not a bit more matte the color can budge. I think a few tweaks to the formula would help. However, the color is true to the tube which i appreciate. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than a color looking at certain way in the tube but when you put it on its completely different than what you expected.

Styling a Sequin Blazer Jacket

image

Hi lovebugs! This sequined blazer jacket look came from a conversation I had a while back where we discussing what to wear to an event and someone said you can’t wear sequins in the day time, to which I responded “well why not?” That’s when I decided to put a look together centered around this sequin blazer jacket. The thought was that sequined anything is too loud, too shimmery, and inappropriate for an event in the daytime. I completely disagree. Sequins are festive, fun and not a lot of people are open to wearing sequins so you know wherever you go, you’ll be less likely to bump into a similar outfit. And a blazer jacket is great if its a little chilly in the location you will be in.

image

I love this sequined blazer jacket from one of my favorite stores, Zara! I love the bright colors on this blazer jacket and the pattern is amazing. It’s not too shiny where you feel like you’re blinding passerbys. It’s a perfect statement piece.
image

It’s colorful which I love and I didn’t want to take away from that so I paired it with a mustard crop top and coral heels to stay in the same color family.

I added the ripped jeans to give the outfit a laid back comfortable feel that can make it a fun daytime event outfit or an outfit that can be easily translated to night time. I love outfits that can transition from day to night… all purpose is the way to go!

What are your thoughts on sequined items to wear during the day? Are you a lover of sequins as well?
